Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (lower parliament chamber), Abdelouahed Radi, underlined Tuesday the urgency to establish democracy in Africa in order to overcome the problems it is facing.

The dissemination of democratic values and practices, the modernization of political institutions, as well as the consolidation of the culture of human rights and the civil society constitute indeed the main, urgent, and basic tasks that need to be undertaken by our peoples, he said at the opening of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) held in Rabat this May 11-12.

After he shed light on problems facing Africa like drought, epidemics, poverty, unemployment, wars and illiteracy, Radi stressed the need for a political and institutional upgrading in African continents to guarantee stability and mobilize the African peoples in various development and construction projects.
