Egypt welcomes quartet meeting reiteration of Palestinian-Israeli borders
A spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency welcomed on Wednesday the statement issued by the Quartet in New York on Tuesday.
In press statements, the spokesman welcomed in particular the confirmation by the Quartet that the implementation of the Road Map was the only way to materialize the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, and the confirmation that the withdrawal of Israel from all the Arab territories occupied in 1967 remained the basis of the Middle East peace process.
The spokesman also welcomed the confirmation in the statement that the final settlement of any of the final-status issues in particular the borders and refugees right to return issues-should be done through negotiations and agreement between the Israeli and Palestinian sides.
He added that this in itself increased the importance of starting direct political negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on the implementation of the consecutive stages of the Road Map ending by the final-status negotiations in the third phase.
