A bloody month in Iraq

Figures issued by the US defense department ( Pentagon) said that number of American soldiers who were killed in Iraq in April has almost surpassed the number of American military men who were killed in the main battles period in this country between March 23 and the first of May, 2003.

Some 124 American soldiers were killed this month ( April), 105 of them in fighting. But this 105 might be 118, according to an official in the Pentagon, asked to be anonymous in that the reason is that 13 soldiers killed in Iraq are not yet classified among the " dead in a battle or accidental death." The outcome of the American losses was 109 soldiers when Washington announced the end of the main fighting. Since the beginning of the war, some 721 American troops were killed in Iraq, including 520 in military operations, according to the American official statistics.
