Moussa arrives in Damascus
The secretary General of the Arab League Amre Mousa arrived in Damascus in a visit to Syria.
He was received at the International Damascus airport by Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara, the Egyptian Ambassador to Syria and the president of the Regional office for boycotting Israel.
Mousa told reporters at the Airport that there are no obstacles to the convening of the Arab summit, adding that an agreement exists among the Arab states on the necessity of meeting in May. The AL Chief pointed out that consultations in this regard go in a reasonable way. Answering a question on the role of the AL in Iraq during this stage, Moussa said the role goes in line with the Iraqi interests. "The AL is interested in all Arab issues and can deal with them under regional and international circumstancesÉthe AL is concerned with the situation in Iraq and holds consultations and contacts with various Iraqi and international circles in search of a solutionÉ"
For his part, al-Shara described the latest developments in Iraq as dangerous, adding there is a state of tension and escalation that included the whole region. He called on the Arab states to reconsider their priorities and concentrate on what is important and more important because practically nobody will defend the Arab states other than their peoples.
Answering a question on the future situation in Iraq following the war, al-Shara added that originally there were no justification for the warÉ.nor even there are any clear plans to get out of the dilemma of war.
On the possibility of the convening the Arab summit, the Foreign Minister said " we wish the summit will be heldÉand we hope that the ongoing consultations among Arab leaders would lead to overcoming obstacles, and lead to good preparation for the summit."
President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday received Moussa. Moussa briefed the President on the outcomes of his contacts and consultations he is making to hold the Arab summit.
It is emphasized the necessity of good preparation of the Arab Summit in order to reach decisions that meet the political and economic aspirations of the Arab nation, the official news said.
