A course for Arab police men on Human rights

Originally published

The human rights administration in the police general command in Dubai organized the first course for the Arab police in the field of human rights. The event is organized in the Human Rights Higher commission of the UN on April 24 through 28.

Some 60 police officers from all Arab states will take part in the course which aims at disseminating human rights culture among personnel working in the police sector in the Arab region, and to show the basic rights and freedoms police men should abide by when practicing their work missions.

Col. Ahmad Bin Fahd, the director of the police academy in Dubai and chairman of the supreme committee of the organization said that the course intends to "highlight the good picture of the police man and to change the common understanding on the Arab police." The course will tackle several topics including the international criterion for human rights through international and regional agreements and charters, human rights under armed conflicts and internal disturbances and human rights at the Arab level.

The convening of this course coincides with the convening of a conference in the International Criminal Court and revitalizing rules if the International Humanitarian law to be held on April 26 with the participation of 400 experts in the International law and representatives for the Arab states.

Certain observers doubt the possibility of honoring human rights in certain Arab states, especially those still implementing the emergency laws.
