Aid dropped in Mountainous regions, relief supply gains momentum
Copters have started to drop humanitarian aid in several hamlets and localities in most difficult areas of the Al Hoceima province, jolted on Tuesday by a powerful quake that killed at least 570 people and injured hundreds of others.
Copters conducted over twenty missions, dropping several tons of foodstuff and blankets, to be distributed to local populations, especially in the most-affected and remote localities of Ait Kamra and Imrabten.
Meanwhile, relief supply has gained momentum as trucks continue to carry the international humanitarian aid that lands at the city's airport to the neighboring villages, towns and hamlets.
As at this Friday, some 37,000 blankets, 5,770 tents and about 400 tons of foodstuffs were distributed to the quake-stricken populations.
The Moroccan Drinking Water Utility (ONEP) said it is carrying on its operations to supply drinking water to the region and assured that the region's dams were not damaged by the quake.
To help in carrying donations for the quake victims, Moroccan airline "RAM" has announced low fares for Moroccan expatriates in addition to cargo facilities. RAM said all its Casablanca-bound planes from Frankfurt, Brussels and Dusseldorf will make a stop over in Al Hoceima.
Moroccans at home and abroad have mobilized to help the quake victims through various operations of fund-raising, blood donations and other humanitarian assistance.
