Turabi accuses the government of feeding the conflict in Darfour
The secretary general of the opposition Sudanese People's Conference party Hassan al- Turabi criticized the policy pursued by Khartoum towards the conflict in Darfour, stressing that this problem cannot be settled apart from the south.
In a press conference, Turabi accused the government of provoking certain tribes in Darfour, against each other, stressing that the problem of southern Sudan and the question of Darfour are two faces for one coin, and should not be seperated. Turabi also accused Chad of getting involved in the conflict in Darfour and stressed he had got information from official sources in Darfour confirming that Chad is involved in the events of that area.
The Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir had announced by the beginning of this month that his army fully controls Darfour area, imposing thereby a military solution for the conflict.
The fighting which started since one year between the government forces and the rebells in this area situated on the border with Chad, resulted in killing 3000 persons and displacing 67,000 and in 100,000 as refugees to Chad.
Chad had interfered several times between the two warring sides and reached cease fire twice, but the two sides of the conflict violated it later on.
