Jordan seeks to abrogate an Israeli decision for expelling thousands of Palestinians

Originally published

The spokeswoman for the Jordanian government, Asmaa al-Khuder, stressed that Jordan got positive indicators through diplomatic contacts with the Israeli government stating the initial consent of the Israeli government to back away from a preliminary decision that bans the travel of citizens of the occupied territories only by Palestinian passports as from the first of March.

In a press statement, Khuder said that the Jordanian government exerts efforts with Israel to definitely give up this decision. For its part, the Palestinian authorities delegated two days before one of its officials to Jordan to discuss with the Jordanian government on expected implications for the Israeli decision.

Analysts say that the Jordanian fears of Israel's implementation of this decision lies in that its execution will lead to putting some 187,000 Palestinians carrying the Jordanian passports to evacuate to Jordan or get a travel document from the Palestinian authority.

Worthy mentioning that Jordan which hosts some 1.7 million Palestinian refugees, listed on UNRWA's list, tightened measures to receive citizens of the West Bank since the eruption of the Palestinian Intifada so as to avoid demographic vacuum because of the Israeli military practices.
