US Former Official criticizes his country's policy towards Iraq

Originally published

The former U.S. undersecretary of state, Edward Walker, criticized his country's policy in Iraq, calling for transfer of power to the Iraqis and enabling them to run their own affairs by themselves.

In a press statement published in Kuwait Saturday, Walker said the U.S. policy has so far reached no clear formula that ensures the benefits of all Iraqis. He added that rebuilding Iraq would not be an easy job at all.

The former American senior diplomat stressed that any initiative launched by the U.S. on the Middle East would not be successful unless it is mainly linked to the resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict, particularly the Palestinian issue.

He said he believed that attempts to polish the American image in the Arab states would not be achieved through radio or TV stations but through an objective, sincere policy in the region.
