Saleh visits Riyadh to discuss border issues
An Arab diplomatic source announced that the Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh will visit on Tuesday the Saudi capital Riyadh to hold talks with the Saudi officials over the barrier installed by the Saudi authorities on the borders between the two states.
The security barrier is situated within an open area for grazing between the citizens of the two states according to the terms of Jeddah treaty for joint border demarcation of 2000.
Last week the two side concluded talks in Riyadh to settle differences over building the barrier without issuing an official declaration on the results of the talks. Press sources, however, said that Saudi officials refused to call the barrier " the separation security wall," rather said a cement barrier to halt sneaking operations.
The Saudi Arabian sources said that the barrier resembles oil pipelines at a length of 42 Km and aims at closing an open area that is easy for cars to go through. This, however, comes in the context of strong security measures implemented by the Kingdom following the attacks against it in 2003.
Worthy mentioning that the Saudi border guards detain annually thousands of smugglers and persons who try to sneak to the kingdom and confiscate amounts of drugs, weapons and ammunition along the joint borders with Yemen.
