An Egyptian party calls for Pharoes revival

Originally published

The Egyptian party affairs committee on Saturday received documents providing for establishing a new controversial party in support of the Pharonic heritage in Egypt and splitting it from the Arab and Islamic heritage .

The call of the new party "Egypt the mother" provoked strong criticism from the side of the political force in Egypt, especially nationalists and Islamists who considered that the appeal advocated by the new party is the last thing that Egypt needs.

However, accusations appeared against the party as being a hireling to foreign sides as soon as many of its founders took the forums of the conference to declare its foundation on Saturday in a hall at the Lawyers bar association in Cairo, whereas people crowded among supporters and opponents for the reflecting on this party and a row was about to take place, and this led to the suspension of the forum.

The chairman of the party Mohsin Lutfi al-Sayyed said "we are not Arabs, we are Egyptians," calling for teaching the Coptic and Pharonic languages in the Egyptian schools.

Cofounders of the party said they are sure that the parties affairs committee will agree on founding the party for its unique program compared with programs of other Egyptian parties.

However, having a unique party is a precondition for its foundation. An observer who attended the conference wondered "is it expected that the parties affairs committee will approve a party program that violates the first item of the constitution," noting that the first article of the Egyptian constitution states Egypt's Arab identity." The parties law in Egypt which was issued in 1977, states the government's committee to ratify any party before it is legalized during 60 days. But this committee has so far refused 60 requests and only ratified few numbers. The program of the said party was issued in an elegant booklet with the picture of a Pharos royal family and the logo of the party composed of a green area indicates the Nile valley, two areas of yellow color on the two sides, indicate to the Egyptian Sahara ( desert and three pyramids on the Nile of a Yellow color and two blue lines indicate two seas, the Mediterranean, and the red Sea.

The party calls for reviving the Egyptian nationality ( the Pharoes ) and calls for amending the constitution so as to remove any remarks to Egypt's Arab identity or a link between religion and politics.

The founders of the party attribute what they consider political, economic, social and cultural crises that hit Egypt in the first part of the 20th century to the Arab nationalism that was adopted by the late Egyptian President Gamal Abdul Nasser.

The party's program confirms its commitment to secularism "a liberal secularism knows the importance of religion in establishing morals and values that protect the individual and society from deviations, while the state dedicates efforts to the actual world whose laws are drawn by people." The program used the Coptic months for dating. When it dealt with March 1919 revolution led by the late Egyptian leader Saad Zaghloul, it referred to it in the name of " the revolution of Bramhat / March 1919." Barmahat is one of the Coptic year months in Egypt and this name is still used in the area of agriculture.
