Darfour rebels allege cutting Khartoum army supplies
Rebels of Darfour district, to the west of Sudan, said they blocked contacts between towns that fall under the control of the government after Khartoum said that it fully controlled the semi desert district which adjoins Libya and Chad.
The leader of al-Adala Wal Musawat ( justice and equality ) movement ,Khalil Ibrahim, said that 12,000 of the fighters of his group and the Sudan liberation army group blocked the road which links al-Fasher, al-Jneinah, and Neyala, the three main cities in the area. They also cut the road which links Darfour to the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Ibrahim said that the government forces are no longer able to move outside their centers. He continued that the conflict will continue as long as the government does not treat complaints raised by the people like the neglect of the area. Earlier, the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al- Bashir stressed that the government forces controlled the situation on Monday and debated a one month pardon for the rebels who carried the weapons one year before while accusing the government of neglecting the semi-desert area.
However, in an attempt to alleviate human sufferings in Darfour, the UN announced yesterday that distributing aid is continuously progressing in West Sudan area.
The spokesman for the UN coordinator said that the delivery of aids improved during the two past weeks, adding that the aid that arrived in Kotom, which is situated to the west of Khartoum, and inhabited by 60,000 displaced.
Barker expected the arrival of more aid to more areas within the few weeks; a matter which is confirmed by the government to the organization.
