Development banks commit to promote international partnership on managing for development results
The international roundtable on Managing for Development Results that closed in Marrakesh Thursday adopted a "joint memo" in which international and regional development banks pledge to promote international partnership on managing for Development Results.
Participants in this second round table also committed to promote awareness on the need for developing countries to develop managing systems capable of defining results during planning, implementation and assessment to obtain the best development results.
In this context of "world partnership," countries should take in charge the management of their development process, the banks argued, calling for the development of strategic planning and statistic analysis tools to orient the development process meant to achieve the defined objectives.
The World Bank, African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and other financial institutions said they give a particular importance to countries' support to guarantee a better management based on development results. Besides, they urged development agencies to focus on results by harmonizing cooperation programs with the results sought by countries.
Development banks deemed that developing and industrialized countries should exert great efforts to accelerate economic growth and decrease poverty.
The World Bank explains that the idea of the "management-for-results" approach is that the entire development of country-assistance strategy should contribute to country results. For every activity supported by the strategy, country and Bank staff should be thinking about results as soon as they begin planning and they should work toward those results during implementation. At the end of the project or program, they should evaluate whether expected results were achieved and draw lessons for the future.
