Originally published

The leader of the Israeli opposition labor party Shimon Peres was reelected as chairman of this party for additional two more years.

The party's conference assigned Peres ( 80 year old) to run the party until the first of December, 2005, at his own request. The memorandum provided for extending his presidency until that date received 60% of the votes, according to official counting, Peres who has been on the political stage in Israel since more than half a century was elected in June 2003 as a chairman for the labor party, temporarily and for one year.

He succeeded then Ameiram Matsbagh who resigned following the election defeat the party received in the legislative elections in January 2003 in which the right wing won.
