Khartoum prepares for a peace initiative in Darfour

Originally published

The Wali ( governor ) of North Darfour which is situated to the West of Sudan, Othman Youssef Kabar, said that the central government in Khartoum is preparing to announce an initiative in order to solve the conflict with the rebels, peacefully in Darfour.

Kabar said in Khartoum "I have come to the capital to prepare for a peaceful political initiative to settle the crisis. The Sudanese government is clinging to the political solution." But he added that the peaceful solution should be based on "military action which imposed the dignity of the state and ensures security and stability. The rebels should drop the weapons and resort to the sound of reason."

Rebels of the Sudan's liberation movement and the justice and equality movement are launching a war against the government in order to end what they described discrimination in treatment against Darfour, and they accuse Khartoum of arming militias that force the villagers of African origins to flee away so as to confiscate their lands. The Sudan liberation movement took part in talks with the Sudanese government at the mediation of Chad but it was not fruitful.
