Cairo: demonstration for the coalition party demanding Atef Obeid's resignation
Some 400 members of the leftist Egyptian coalition party demonstrated on Saturday in Cairo, demanding the resignation of the Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, accusing him of being unable to halt price increase of daily commodities, and to stop unemployment
The demonstrators who chanted "Ebeid: resign" in front of the People's Assembly, including the secretary general of the party, Hussein Abdul Razzaq, gathered for one hour but without incidents.
One of the coalition members said that the party calls for the resignation of the current government as a punishment over the failure of its policy in ending the price control policy, and the rate of unemployment and the reduction of their purchasing power.
On the other hand, a high ranking Egyptian source said that the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will appoint the former secretary general of the Arab league Butrous Butrous Ghali as the chairman of the "national council for human rights" which was established in 2003. He added that Mubarak will appoint the former minister of information, Ahmad Kamal Abu al-Naja, as the deputy chairman of the council."
