The leader of the banned Islamic front for Salvation, Sheikh Abbasi Madani, said he will disclose today in the Qatari capital Doha his initiative which he had declared by the end of last year to solve the Algerian crisis that provides an "outlet" to put an end to the political conflict in Algeria.

Madani warned that Algeria "is standing before two options, either to stand in with the regime in a state of division, or Algerians coming together for an end of conflict, given to them by the initiative."

He said he will talk about his initiative which he had announced by the end of 2003, but did not disclose its content in a press conference in Doha, where he has been staying since November, 2003. Madani said that this initiative will protect Algeria and the region form problems that it are impossible to control any more such as the increased migration. He added " the Algerian crisis has reached a rotten state, in a way that the regime which had created it along 40 years is no longer able to solve it."

In remark to the conflict inside the National Liberation Front between the secretary of the party, Ali Benflis, and the President of the republic, Abdul Aziz Butaflika, Madani said "I do not support any of the two sides," considering that the coming presidential elections "is a waste of time," stressing that the alternative "will be in the initiative which he will announce today."

Since November 2003, Madani has been living in Qatar to complete medical treatment he had started by the end of August in Malaysia, which he had visited in his first trip abroad since he left prison in July 1997.
