Salafeyah movement members end boycott of American diplomats

Originally published

The al-Salafeyah movement in Kuwait has ended a boycott of American diplomats that it had announced following the US occupation of Iraq.

This development came following the meeting held between the secretary general of the movement, Hakim al-Mateiri, and the political advisor at the American embassy in Kuwait, Richard Bell, last Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the movement on Sunday.

Al-Mateiri said that the movement resumed the meetings following repeated requests from the American diplomats over the three past months.

He considered that the movement does not have sentiments of hatred towards the west nor the American people, rather the dispute is over the behavior of the ruling American administration, which seeks to restore back the era of colonialism. Al-Mateiri stressed that such meetings, in any case, helps in understanding each side's view points individually.

The Salafeyah movement issued an official statement read by the deputy chairman of the movement's political bureau, Sajed al-Abdali, which said that the meeting came at a repeated request from the American embassy.

Worthy mentioning that the Salafeyah movement represents an important Salafeyah trend in state of Kuwait, with the greatest sector of it including the heritage revival societies. The movement is represented in the parliament by three parliamentarians.
