AL stresses the need of evacuating ME from mass destruction weapons

Originally published

The secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, has stressed the need of evacuating the Middle East region from all types of mass destruction weapons. He criticized Israel's continued rejection of the demands set by the international community to get rid off its chemical and nuclear arsenal, which he said constitutes a grave threat to stability of the Middle East region.

Following his meeting with member of the Interim Governing Council in Iraq, Eyad Allawi, yesterday in Cairo, Moussa stressed that achieving peace and ensuring security for all peoples of the region is linked to forcing Israel to open its nuclear institution before international monitoring and subjugating it to the system of the guarantees of the International Agency for Atomic Energy. He demanded the UN Security Council to take a firm decision towards the Israeli mass destruction weapons.

He indicated the total commitment of the Arab states to international norms, and decisions pertinent to the banning the deployment of nuclear weapons, and all sorts of mass destruction weapons. Moussa, however, discussed with Allawi conditions on the Iraqi arena.
