G-77 countries claim equal chances in international trade

Originally published

Developing countries, participating in Marrakech in the high level G-77 plus China conference, reiterated Wednesday their call for equal chances in international trade, particularly within the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Senegal's foreign minister, Cheikh Tidiane Cadio, said countries of the South "claim, above all, a privileged place in the new world order" by looking forward to enhance their negotiation power in agreements that fashion contemporary economic and political realities.

On his part, Saudi minister of Economy and planning, Khaled Ben Mohamed Al Kassibi, called for facilitating all third world countries' adhesion in WTA and "imposing transparent conditions" for such adhesion.

Marrakech conference is an opportunity for participants to assess progress in the implementation of Havana (2000) summit's plan of action that paved the way for South-South integration.
