Arab thought foundation to hold 3rd congress in Morocco

The Beirut-based Arab thought Foundation, chaired by Saudi prince Khaled Al Faysal, will hold its 3rd congress in Morocco.

The decision was made at second congress held in Lebanon this December 4-6 by the NGO which aims to promote dialogue between intellectuals and decision-makers in the Arab states.

The encounter will be held in Morocco, probably next autumn, at the invitation of king Mohammed VI, royal advisor, Mohamed Kabbaj told MAP.

Kabbaj hoped the 3rd congress agenda will bring a new asset to Arab countries and the Arab nation, pointing out that the works of the 2nd congress did not only show division among the Arab states, but also the weakness of the Arab League.

Divisions among the Arab states are a major handicap in dialogue and relations with other countries, he underlined, explaining that the lack of a common strategy to face different challenges has led some countries to attempt to impose their political tendencies on the Arab states.

Nevertheless, the Moroccan official deemed that the congress was highly successful. He recalled that eminent figures took part in the event such as Algerian president, Abdel Aziz Bouteflika, and Lebanese premier, Rafic Hariri.

Political, economic, social and cultural issues were raised at the meeting in addition to relations between the Arab states and Europe, Africa, Asia and America, said Kabbaj..
