Sudan rebels delegation visits Algeria

Originally published

Sources of the Sudanese southern rebels said that a delegation from the movement is currently touring several Arab and foreign countries.

The sources said that a delegation chaired by the deputy chairman of the movement will meet in Algeria with the Algerian President Abdul Aziz Butaflika after his meeting with the foreign minister to brief him on the latest developments concerning the peace process in Sudan.

The visit also aims at preparing for the visit to be carried out by the chairman of the movement John Garang to Algeria later, according to the spokesman for the movement Yasser Araman.

However, Araman did not explain the objective of the visit, and he also did not explain whether Algeria, which is not directly involved to this conflict, will play the role of the mediator in order to facilitate the signing of the agreement. The same mediation Algeria had in the conflict between Eritrea and Ethiopia.
