UN ends oil for food program that controlled Iraq's assets
The UN secretary general Kofi Annan announced on Thursday that the UN is still determined to continue its support to the Iraqi people. He said during a meeting to the UN Security Council "we have completed the oil-for-food program but are still determined to continue providing aid to the Iraqi people who have been suffering since a long time, by all means that are still available to us."
Annan explained that the meeting of the UN Security Council "was held to declare the end of one of the main missions and the most complex carried out by the UN general secretariat which is the only humanitarian program which was financed totally from the resources of the country which we had given the aids to."
He commended the performance of the Iraqi employees who worked in this program despite the great risks.
