Khartoum resumes negotiations with Darfour rebels

Originally published

Sources said that a Sudanese governmental delegation started negotiations on Tuesday in Chad with rebels of the Sudan's liberation movement in Darfour area to the west of Sudan.

A diplomatic source said that these negotiations are presumed to lead "to comprehensive peace" according to a cease fire agreement concluded on September 3rd. The government and the Sudan liberation movement signed a cease- fire agreement for 45 days following a mediation from the President of Chad Idris Bebi.

The Sudanese daily al-Anbaa said that the two delegations stressed "their commitment to reach peace and stability in Darfour." These talks come at a time when the government forces and the rebels exchanged accusations over not honoring the cease fire.
