Qrei wants relief from forming a Palestinian government
News reports in Palestine said that the Palestinian prime minister Ahmad Qrei asked the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to relief him from the mission of forming the Palestinian emergency government.
This came at a time when the Palestinian Legislative Council postponed indefinitely a session which was devoted to win confidence on the mini Palestinian government.
The acting speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Ibrahim Abu al-Naja said that postponement of the meeting came because of differences over giving the government the authorities of an emergency government, noting that no date was set yet to convene a vote on approving this government.
News reports said that the differences concentrated on that the new ministers refuse to practice their duty before the Legislative Council that ratifies the formation of the government.
The news added that the council refuses ratification of the government unless President Arafat changes the presidential decree of trying to create an emergency government, noting that a strong dispute erupted over this matter between Arafat and the central committee of Fatah. Emergency governments exist many Arab states, and are used as a pretext to constantly to deprive citizens of stated constitutional rights.
Members of the emergency government took their constitutional oath before the Palestinian president on Wednesday amid objections by certain members of the legislative council on the formation of the government and its agenda.
