International observers welcome in Mauritania's presidential elections
The Mauritanian Government is not opposed to the presence of international observers to monitor the presidential elections set for November 7 in Mauritania, said, in Nouakchott Thursday, an official from the ministry of the Interior.
Abdi Ould Horma, director of local communities at the ministry, said all measures have been taken to organize this elections, insisting that his government "does not object" to the presence of foreign observers.
Speaking at news conference in Nouakchott, Ould Horma said authorities are eager to hold this election in "total transparency," adding that the number of voters who have registered on electoral lists has reached 1.7 million persons who will chose between the six candidates to the presidency.
This election is the third to be held in the north African country since the promulgation, in 1991, of the constitution that established the multi-party system.
