Al-Anbaa: Sudan may hold two referendums over the peace agreement
Sudanese minister of justice Ali Othman Ismael announced yesterday that the Sudanese constitution will be amended according to the final peace agreement after finalizing it shortly.
In press statements issued yesterday by the state run al-Anbaa daily, Yassin said any "contradiction in the texts of the next agreement and the constitution will require amending the constitution to cope with the terms of the agreement."
He added that the laws will be amended in line of the new conditions necessitated by the peace agreement. Al-Anbaa quoted Yassin as saying that his government might hold a referendum; one about the peace agreement due to be held with southern rebels to ensure a vaster popular support and another to amend certain parts of the constitution which are in conflict with the peace agreement.
