Mubarak inaugurates first stage of the second underground line

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak on Ocober 1st, 1996 inaugurated the first stage of the second underground line in Greater Cairo. This project is the first-ever in Africa and the Middle East and aims to link the different areas of the capital and its suburbs with a quick and regular means of transportation which also preserves the environment. This subway was initiated in 1987 and would consist eventually of three lines with a length of 68.2 kilometers
