American closes al-Tanf crossing between Syria and Iraq

News reports said that the most important border crossing between Syria and Iraq was blocked by the American forces on the Iraqi side, according to well-informed Syrian sources.

Although no detailed information exists on the reason behind this US measure, however, observers consider it as an American attempt to tighten the movement towards Syria

Al-Tanf crossing is one of the three crossings between Syria and Iraq in addition to the two crossings of al-Yaroubeyah and Albukamal. It had prospered in the last years of the rule of the former toppled regime of Saddam Hussein with the increase of the trade exchange level between Syria and Iraq.

At the meantime, al- Yaroubeyah crossing has a trade activity between the two states in addition of being a transit crossing for both Turkey and Lebanon.
