Saudi Arabia: foiling an attack against a factory

Originally published

Saudi Arabia's security sources announced yesterday that the Saudi security forces interfered at the last moment to foil an attack against a cement factory to the north of the capital Riyadh, and detained a man while he was putting explosives in the walls and the air ventilation network in the factory.

The sources said that the man was working as a driver in the factory and he had tried before the attack to bribe a colleague working in the company to cut all telephone contacts for five minutes. The factory is situated in al-Qaseim area, which is known of being the place of extremists Islamists where 6 men and one police man were killed during fire exchange by the end of July.

On the other hand, the chairperson of the US Senate Committee on governmental affairs Susan Collins yesterday criticized the refusal of the US President George W. Bush to give the Congress details of the list including names of Saudi organizations and personnel who were interrogated over being terrorism sponsors. The US Treasury department had refused to disclose these names under the pretext that a step as such might obstruct efforts aiming at blocking terrorism financing sources.
