Lebanon detains five persons for planning to launch attacks on western targets
The Lebanese security authorities arrested five persons on pretext of conspiring to launch attacks against western targets in the country.
In a statement, the Lebanese ministry of interior said it had arrested five persons who were trained in a camp for the Palestinian refugees sheltering what it called extremist Islamic groups.
The statement accused the detainees of planning to launch attacks against western targets including take away restaurants in Beirut, noting that a unit from the security council attacked their places and arrested them.
The statement said that the five persons were brought before the attorney general after they were interrogated and admitted they had received training and planned for carrying out operations against western targets.
Earlier this month, Lebanon accused scores of persons suspected to be involved in planning for kidnapping the American ambassador and attacking the US embassy in Lebanon and a series of explosions.
