US soldier wounded in attack in Baghdad

Eye witnesses said yesterday that one American soldier was hit in an attack which targeted a police station in al-Azameyah quarters in Baghdad after it was hit by a missile on Thursday evening.

This is considered the first attack of its kind against this club by missile shelling against the headquarters of the American forces in the downtown of al- Falouja.

The American forces retaliated by extensive fire at the residential areas and fire was seen in several buildings adjoining the headquarters of the American forces.

Earlier in the day, an American military vehicle was attacked by unidentified gunmen in al-Doura to the south of Baghdad, Witnesses said that three American soldiers were killed in the attack. But the US defense department admitted that only one soldier was killed and two wounded in an attack it said to took place near by Falouja.
