New crisis threaten collapse of Sudanese peace talks

Originally published

The current negotiations between the Sudanese government and the rebels (SPLA) of Sudan in Nairobi, Kenya is witnessing a crisis threatening its collapse.

The spokesman for the rebels Yasser Araman attributed reasons behind the crisis to the persistence of the government delegation to keep away rebel delegation member Niyal Dinq from the negotiations under the pretext that he is not from the three area on which the negotiations are being held, namely al-Nouba mountain, Eibi and the southern Blue Nile.

In a statement, Araman said that the two delegations failed to reach an agenda for the talks after the refusal of the delegation of the Sudanese government to implement the self - determination right and to separate the state from religion in these areas.

Araman added that the Sudanese government has also set a condition to keep away the neighboring states ( Eritrea, Ethiopia and Uganda ) from observing the ceasefire. Araman accused the Sudanese government of imposing negative atmospheres on the talks, by launching fighting along the two past weeks, as he claimed.
