Indonesia against unilateral military action in Iraq

Originally published

The Indonesian foreign minister Hassan Jouda yesterday renewed his country's rejection to any unilateral military act against Iraq.

In a press conference held in Jakarta, the Indonesia minister said that the Indonesian government will ask for explanations to the ongoing American and British plans concerning Iraq and the evidences Washington and London claim to have in accusing Iraq of having mass destruction weapons. He commented that Indonesian inquiries will be raised when the British foreign office secretary Jacque Straw will visit Jakarta today.

The Indonesian FM added that his country supports all efforts aiming at dismantling mass destruction weapons through the UN security council, noting that it will be difficult to accept interference in Iraq without the issuance of a resolution by the UN security council to this effect.
