Al-Sharq Al-Awsat: Omran highlights al-Assad's visit to London

Originally published

Syrian Minister of Information, Adnan Omran has underlined that President Bashar Al-Assad' s visit to Britain is a visit of great Arab leader, for a country which gains the regional and international respect, to a European country which is important in its continent and has political, economical and scientific capabilities.

In an interview with the London based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat issued yesterday, Omran pointed out that the two countries - Syria and Britain Ð by the current visit of President Assad, are moving towards developing relations in different possible domains.

Since the region is undergoing conditions of aggression and threats, it is natural that the Israeli practices would be on the discussion agenda of the president with the aim of ending such aggression and having a genuine and an active international effort to force Israel to comply with the international law and to withdraw from all the occupied Arab territories of 1967 and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Regarding threats of war against Iraqi people, Omran underlined that such threats are in contradiction with the UN Charter and the Security Council resolution 1441. Such issue would, naturally, be on the two leaders agenda because Syria always expressed opposition towards any aggression on Iraq and asked for the international law to be respected, Omran added.

Syrian-British economic activities have become stronger a while ago and the two countries are exerting more efforts with the aim of giving them more strength, Omran concluded.
