Originally published

The Lebanese security department had discovered a technical intelligence case and found equipment used by Israel for intelligence and military purposes in Lebanon.

A well- informed source told the Lebanese daily Assafir in today's issue that just three weeks ago, one young man from Kafer Matta town, in al-Shahar area was roving the woods of the area and known for his hobby to digging for archeological finds -- arrived at the hill which is not trodden by ordinary road links. The hill is situated at a sight line which covers the whole coast area and the depth of the south into the Palestinian territories.

During his search, the man said he found cables and strings among the trees and on the routes leading to the hill. He followed the lines into a very small cement room in which he found equipment unfamiliar to him. In his town back, he informed the official of the Progressive Socialist Party about this matter. The latter contacted the chairman of the Party Walid Junblat who by his turn informed the intelligence directorate in the Lebanese army.

In a later time, a unit representing the intelligence headed for the area which found it out to be deserted since a long time, and the people were frightened to reach it because of the landmines, besides the Israeli helicopters and warplanes had frequently flown over it at low altitude, especially for chasing Palestinian elements used to be in that area before.

Well-informed sources said that the installed instruments work by being linked to a satellite or a reconnaissance plane which survey the area and provide planes with information.
