Originally published

The US said on Sunday it opposes the appointment of a provisional government in Iraq instead of the current government because the Iraqi opposition did not succeed in settling its differences.

An American official who asked to be anonymous said that the US does not believe that time is proper to declare a provisional government and the Iraqi opposition has not yet drawn its vision for the new Iraq.

The American official blamed the Iraqi opposition for not achieving a progress in drawing a work plan in aftermath the current Iraqi leadership. He indicated that it is not likely to convene a main conference for the Iraqi opposition, that was expected to be held this month in Europe aiming at maintaining an agreement, on a "later Iraq" and this is because of the failure of the Iraqi opposition to organize it.

Just recently, the Los Angeles Times said that the American administration is planning for a provisional phase for a new government in Baghdad to choose a president that appears from inside Iraq.
