French judiciary rejects case filed by Gen. Nizar against Habib Sawa'deyah
The (minor crimes) court in Paris on Friday rejected the defamation case filed by the former Algerian foreign minister against the writer of the Dirty War book, Habib Sawa'deyah.
The court based its decision on a recommendation by the ministry of justice which noted during the July session the good intention of Habib Sawa'deyah, and considered that it is not within the authority of the court to "study the history" of Algeria.
Sawa'deyah, a volunteer who served in the Algerian army, said in his book that the Algerian army is responsible for committing grave violations during his fighting of the Islamists. He admitted in an interview with the French 5 channel that the Algerian army "Generals killed thousands of persons."
Khaled Nizar, 64 year old, Algeria's defense minister between 1990- 1993 played a main role in stooping the election process in Algeria in January 1992 after the "Islamic Frontfor Salvation" won the first round of these elections.
