Washington: al-Qaida organization is in Yemen
The American ambassador to Yemen Edmond Hall said on Wednesday that al-Qaida organization which is led by Osama Bin laden is still active in Yemen.
Hall said in a speech he delivered on the occasion of the first anniversary of the September 11 attacks "It is true that many bases for al-Qaida organization in Afghanistan were destroyed, but this organization still works at the world level: in the USA, in Europe, in the Gulf and in Yemen." The American diplomat disclosed during the ceremony which was held at the headquarters of the American embassy in Sanaa, amid tough security measures, that two persons were killed in an explosion in an apartment in Sanaa on August 9 and they were members in al-Qaida organization.
Hall said that American investigators took part in the investigations made by the Yemeni authorities in order to find out about the implications of the explosion, about which the Yemeni police said took place when three persons were preparing an explosive. The American ambassador explained security and intelligence cooperation between the US and Yemen has been expanded greatly. He added "we have to be determined to expand our cooperation further more in order to fight all forms of terrorism."
