Four million students starts their school year under sanctions
More than four million Iraqi students on Sunday started their school year under the embargo imposed by the UN on Iraq since August 1990.
The Iraqi dailies on Sunday quoted the Iraqi minister of education Fahd Salem al-Shukra as saying that the ministry has prepared the school buildings and all study requirements for all stages of learning and were distributed earlier this year despite the repressive sanctions.
He indicated that the number of Iraqi students this year is 4.750 million students of both sexes. He said that some 88 elementary schools were built, 45 secondary schools, and 116 schools were rehabilitated in all the Iraqi provinces.
