Two US planes break the sound barrier over Kuwait
A Kuwaiti official said that the earth quake felt by citizens in various parts of the country on Saturday after midnight was most expectedly a result of two American warplanes breaking of a sound barrier over Kuwait after they flew from one of the American plane carrier in the Gulf.
The director general of the civil defense Col. Mustafa Jumaa said in a statement to the Kuwaiti daily al-Rai al-Aam issued on Sunday that the quake which frightened the Kuwaitis was not a result of an earthquake, adding that no earthquake monitoring systems registered the occurrence of an earthquake.
For its part, the Kuwaiti daily al-Anbaa said in its Sunday's issue that several Kuwaitis felt three successive shocks which lasted for 9 seconds, a matter which pushed many of them to leave their houses of fear.
The paper added that the shocks took place at "one third to one" after midnight in the areas of al-Salemeyah, Sabah al-Salem and al-Ahmadi.
