British Rabbi drops previous statements

Originally published

Britain's chief rabbi, Jonathan Sacks was obliged, under the pressure of the British Jewish community to give up his earlier statements. He said he was mistaken when he attacked the Israeli policy against the Palestinians during the interview he had granted to the British publication The Guardian two weeks earlier.

In a statement to the Jewish Chronicle, mouthpiece of the British Jews issued on Friday, he said that the Guardian's coverage of that interview added what he called vagueness to his message on Israel. He indicated that that interview gave the impression that it is an attack against Israel but it was in reality in defense of Israel, morally speaking.

Worthy mentioning that Sack's statements to The Guardian in which he attacked the Israeli practices against the Palestinians, and described them as contradictory to the real teachings of Judaism, raised a wave of great anger among the circles of British Jews. After that, the said Rabbi was exposed to tremendous pressures in order to give up these statements.
