Al-Qanat: Satterfield to convey US threats to Syria
Arab diplomatic sources in Beirut unveiled that the forthcoming visit of the US under secretary of state for the Middle East David Satterfield to Damascus bears threats.
The sources explained that the American official will convey to the Syrian officials clear and direct warnings on the need to alienate completely from Iraq, and the need of total neutrality during the American strike of Iraq, and to halt the Syrian diplomatic moves which stand against that.
The sources told the al-Qanat that Satterfield will also convey threats to Syria to open the sealed files like the existence of the Palestinian radical organizations on the Syrian territories and the lists of wanted persons which were previously given to Damascus, and cooperation with the Lebanese Hizbullah party.
The sources added that the American official will convey to the Syrian officials clearly that the US administration will work, in case Syria's rejection to Washington's demands, and within days to revive the draft law currently under study by American departments concerned on signing.
The sources said that Syria who feels great concern over what it considers as an American escalation against it seeks an Arab move to support her position and the visit made by President Bashar al-Assad to Riyadh falls in this context.
The sources expected the course of events in the region to be escalated during the coming phase under an American persistence to direct an attack against Iraq and the Arab states opposition of that.
