Canada will not take part in an attack against Iraq

Originally published

The Canadian government has stressed it will not take part in any American military move against Iraq, unless there is tangible evidence of an Iraqi eminent danger.

In a meeting for the ruling Liberals party in Quebec, the Canadian defense minister John McCallum said it is not expected that Canada will take part in any military attack led by the US against Iraq.

The Canadian defense minister stressed that the Canadian government has not at the meantime any evidence that proves the need of a militarily move against Iraq. He indicated that members of the government unanimously agreed not to take part in the attack against Iraq.

In a separate statement, the Canadian foreign minister Bill Graham said that his government does not study the possibility of taking part in the military act, nor thinks of that.
