Killings in Ein al-Helweh camp; al-Dennyeh group chased

Originally published

Security measures are being taken in line with the continued political efforts to prevent re-eruption of a military explosion in Ein al-Helweh camp for the Palestinian refugees in South Lebanon. This was following the "killing of two persons and wounding others in clashes that erupted between members of the Fatah movement, on the one hand, and members of "al- Dennyeh group" on the other.

Lebanese official sides concerned said that there is "a deliberate persistence to hand over to the Lebanese security departments some 15 persons wanted from al-Dennyeh group and that the Palestinian sides in the camp stressed its commitment to this matter." The sources explained that there are serious differences on the mechanism of handing over the wanted, and that the differences inside the camp on the issue "of who is the reference" contributed to the escalation in the situation, because the Fatah movement is persistent to assume this role (to be the main reference) ..., while men of religion and other sides seek to find out a solution in a different way, making use of previous similar experiences."

Palestinian sources said that "the chased groups ( al-Dennyeh) do not have any internal cover inside the camp, and that "Osbet al-Ansar" group does not ensure any additional immunity, and that the decision was taken at the highest level to settle the issue and to expel any persons wanted by the Lebanese state from the camp."

The two sides gave two stories on the clashes which took place. Fatah sources said that al-Dennyeh armed men attacked the headquarters of the movements and an armed struggle took place surprisingly, and they threw mortars and opened bullets at the guards, and this resulted in killing one of them and wounding others, and that a clash resulted in killing one member of the attacking force ( al-Dennyeh)."

But al-Dennyeh group said that one of its members was killed as he was walking out of a mosque at dawn and the clashes took place later.
