The paper attributed this news to confessions made by former chairman of the intelligence in Peru Albero Vladimiro who is now in prison.

He said that the Peru's intelligence received the "listening equipment" from the CIA, and that just a short time before Fojimori regime was toppled in October 2000, the "spying equipment" were brought back to the American embassy.

The spying on telephone operations were made between 1995 - 2000 and were held in a close cooperation between he CIA successive directors in the US embassy in Lima.

The paper said that Vladimiro visited the USA several times to coordinate "listening operations" directly with the CIA in 1997.
