Iraq for resuming talks with UN
Iraq on Thursday renewed calls for resumption of talks with the UN saying that dialogue is the only means to settle the bottleneck faced on the issues of sanctions and weapons inspections.
In an interview with the Iraqi satellite tv, the Iraqi vice president said that Iraq believes that dialogue based on the content and spirit of the UN Security Council resolutions is the rightful solution which guarantees full implementation of these resolutions.
The Iraqi foreign minister Naji Sabri held three rounds of talks with the UN chief Kofi Annan this year, but the two men did not reach an agreement on the return of UN weapons inspectors, who are banned from entering Baghdad since the US and Britain launched a military attack on Iraq in December 1998.
