Islamic conference of environment ministers adopts sustainable development declaration
The first Islamic conference of environment ministers adopted in Jedah Wednesday an Islamic Declaration on Sustainable Development.
The document, signed at the closing session, calls for the respect of the humans and environment-related human rights, and defines an Islamic view of sustainable development.
The conference also adopted three reports, the first on coordination of the preparations for the world summit on sustainable development; the second on the efforts of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and its visions as to water resources management. The third report discusses education as related to environment, healthcare and housing.
The ministers equally adopted two resolutions. The first concerns two studies on sustainable development from an Islamic point of view and the specificity of the Islamic world, and the second a study on environment challenges in the Islamic world.
