Canada: No peace without the foundation of a Palestinian state

Originally published

The Canadian foreign minister Bill Graham on Thursday stressed the need of "founding a Palestinian state having the potentials to sustain" and to "ensure security for Israel" as two basic conditions for solving the Arab- Israeli conflict.

Meantime, the Jordanian King Abdullah II has called to move directly to negotiations on the final status of the Palestinian territories.

During his meeting with Graham on Thursday in al-Aqaba city, the Jordanian King "stressed the need of relating these negotiations to the UN resolutions terms of reference and to the Arab peace initiative" approved by the recent Beirut Arab summit held in March.

Before his meeting with King Abdullah, Graham held talks in Amman with his Jordanian peer Marwan al-Mashaar after which he called in statements to the press to put an end to violence in the Palestinian territories. He also urged sides concerned including Israel to work for peace, stressing in this regard that "the settlements will not be useful for peace on the long run."
