US envoy report on the conflict in Sudan
The US special envoy for peace to Sudan John Danforth has defined basic reasons for the Sudanese conflict in five points which are: oil, self- determination, the connection between religion and the state, the type of the ruling system and the guarantees.
In a report he submitted to the US President George Bush last week and its content was issued by the Sudanese daily al-Ayam ( the days) in its Monday issue, Danforth explained that agreement on these five points is a Sudanese matter, noting that oil has become an integral part of the problem of war and peace in Sudan, calling for dividing oil revenues between the north and the south on a fair bases.
Danforth admitted that the idea of separating the south from Sudan will be very difficult and that the solution lies in ensuring the right for the people of southern Sudan and to honor their religious beliefs, and culture at foreign guarantees.
